Heated GripsPurchased grip heater kit from Darotune here in Ottawa - this is the research I did before finding the one there: Custom Heat makes heated grips (chrome and foam) that SHOULD fit the aero. I measured the bar and grips: the Aero's bar is 1 inch in diameter and the grips are 134mm long. This should correspond to Custom Heat's SKUCHG6 model which fit 1-inch bars and are probably 140mm long. (No length is specified on this model, but the replacement foam for these also fits the 140mm grips). ($119USD). Hot Grips also makes heated grips which should fit the Aero, however they are a rather ugly rubber set for $89.95USD. They do get good reviews for utility on rec.motorcycles. Aerostich offers two solutions: heated grip kit which is a grip heater that fits under the grips ($37.00USD), and an external removable grip wrap pads called "Warm Wrap Grips" ($37.00USD or $47 w/switch). Apparently Kimpex sells heated grips. (Ref. these articles: 1 2). Have not yet determined which model, or price. They are appratenly the foil grip heater type. Probably under their snowmobiles section. Farnam sells the same grip heaters as Aerostich. Dual Star sells ones similar to the kimpex, but the external resistor (to waste heat for low setting) is eliminated. Another suggestion was to look for salvage from snowmobiles, as many now have heated grips (and many are wrecked every year). Possible cheap source. Model specific: Triumph make a set for their Sprint model. Hondaline has a set for the Gold Wing 1800 ($296.00USD) And of course, BMW. |

A bedragled '82 Honda Nighthawk 450 (CB450SC), dubbed "Piglet". (It's not quite a hog, and is a Very Small Animal). I bought it in June 2000 with 46,867 kms on it at purchase. Sold Aug 2004 with 53,000 kms on odometer. |
