The Internet in CanadaThese are some links and resources I've collected regarding the networks that make up the internet backbone throughout Canada. They deal mainly with the CA*Nets. In addition to these networks, a great deal of the ISPs in Canada have connectivity through the more extensive networks in the United States. The CA*Net was created years ago as the first extensive internet in Canada. It is based on standard telephony transports (56K, T1 links, etc.). CA*Net II is an advanced research network (similar to the Next Generation Internet research network in the U.S.) CA*Net 3 is being developed as an optical transport based internet. It is funded by the federal government, facilitated by the CANARIE consortium, and being built by Bell Canada, Cisco Systems Canada, JDS Fitel, Newbridge Networks and Nortel Networks.
